About the Role:  We are looking for a Histology Specialist to be employed at our research facility.  The Histology Specialist will be a member of the Pathology team and will, in partnership with pathologists, pathology scientists, pathology technicians, research scientists, study directors and engineers, support medical device research and development.  The successful applicant will have demonstrated the ability to be highly competent in performing histology lab procedures and operating/maintaining lab equipment and possess excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively partner with other associates working in the lab.  Attributes of a successful applicant include excellent organizational, time management, communication skills, as well as diligence and attention to not only detail, but also to quality and accuracy. 

  

This role will be located at our facility in Flagstaff, Arizona.  Relocation assistance may be available for this position. ​​

 

Responsibilities:

  • Process specimens utilizing various histological and laboratory techniques, including, but not limited to paraffin and resin embedding of specimens, microtomy, routine and special stains, cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry
  • Gross in specimens (tissues, devices)
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Ensure histology laboratory supplies, reagents, and chemicals are properly stocked and stored and order items when needed
  • Perform computer data entry, recall, and labeling on laboratory information systems
  • Manage the disposal or archiving of specimens
  • Support the clinical returns process
  • Participate in writing/reviewing/revising standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols as needed
  • Perform other laboratory and team functions as necessary

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in biology or other related life sciences
  • Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) ASCP certification
  • Minimum 1 year of demonstrated documentation and data collection experience in a laboratory, clinical or regulated environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a small team
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive environment that engages and empowers fellow associates
  • Ability to lift approximately 50lbs independently, and 80lbs with assistance
  • Ability to travel 5%

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working at a contract research organization
  • Medical device experience
  • Experience in quality systems (GLP/GMP)
