About the Role: We are looking for a Nonclinical Research Veterinarian to join our research team at our Science Center. In this role, you will provide veterinary services for research animals in support of medical technology development. The Nonclinical Research Veterinarian also provides direct and indirect consultation and support regarding the health and welfare of all animals in compliance with Biosciences Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), USDA regulations, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and other state and federal regulations as applicable.

 

This role will be located at our facility in Flagstaff, Arizona. 

 
Responsibilities: 
  • Provide preventative care and animal colony health maintenance support for a variety of species, including basic surgery related to wound care management
  • Guide the development of animal treatments and procedures in collaboration with other Bioscience associates
  • Create and maintaining well-documented records (e.g., medical evaluations and treatments, animal health reports)
  • Lead and support surgical procedures for case management (e.g., anesthesia, prep and recovery)
  • Participate in rotating on-call duties as required (e.g. nights, weekends, holidays)
  • Participate in audits and inspections of the facility (e.g., FDA, USDA, AAALAC, DEA)
  • Contribute to the development, creation, and modification of standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in developing experimental protocols
  • Support the development of animal models and animal model justifications
  • Hands-on support of alternative testing models (e.g., cadaveric, tissue based)

Required Qualifications: 

  • DVM with a minimum 2 years professional experience
  • Current veterinary license in one state within the US and the ability to obtain an AZ license, USDA Accreditation for Category II animals and DEA license within the first year of employment 
  • Passion for veterinary care and possess the emotional capacity and sensitivity to support associates that work in this research environment on a daily basis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to travel 5%

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the research setting or board certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine 
  • Clinical experience with agricultural animals
  • Knowledge of advanced anesthesia in support of complex surgical procedures
