About the Role:  We are seeking an experienced Technologist to join the Internal Ventures, Direct Air Capture (DAC) team. In this role, you will draw upon scientific knowledge and engineering principles to identify and evaluate sorbents and composite materials towards fitness for use, material characterization, process-structure-properties and differentiation from CCOs. The DAC business is working with a variety of sorbent materials to deliver to new and existing customers and is looking to understand and advance select sorbents for product development. The Applied Technologist will be integral to understanding the sorbent-material interaction that enables or improves productivity of a DAC product.

  

This position will be located at a facility in Elkton, Maryland, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.  Relocation assistance may be offered for this role. 

 

Pay and Benefits:

  • $120,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
  • Roles above $150k are eligible for the variable pay program each fiscal year, based on defined business performance metrics.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop future sorbent composite structures in support of short- and long-term performance objectives for the DAC product
  • Develop an understanding of in-field product use by interfacing with other technologists, product specialists and application engineers to acquire relevant testing conditions and develop distinctive capabilities for DAC product development.
  • Develop and/or utilize existing test requirements and test methods to conduct Fitness for Use testing including translating in field conditions to in lab test conditions
  • Direct the technology development of new materials, form factors or structures through acceptance testing at a small-to-mid scale prototype
  • Collaborate with upstream partners and knowledge-based experts on design, optimization and iteration of new materials and technologies
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and technology developers as needed in support of DAC Technical and Business Objectives
  • Identify, capture, protect and utilize Intellectual Property in support of technical and business objectives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering or Science field and a minimum 3 years of product or technology development experience
  • Experience in identification and creation of IP
  • Deep background in Material Science and/or adsorption
  • Willingness to embrace a high level of uncertainty, in an accelerated project pace
  • Proficient with data analysis tools and approaches
  • Ability to be hands-on with prototypes and testing
  • Demonstrated ability to research and apply new concepts, techniques, approaches or methods
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and with external partners
  • Demonstrated ability in prioritizing, initiating, and driving projects to completion.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing test methods, executing tests, analyzing data, and documenting results.
  • Ability to travel 10%-15%, as needed

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Gas separations experience
  • Previous experience in new product development
  • Previous experience working with a start-up or demonstrated ability to be agile and adaptable in projects
