About the Role: We are looking for an EMEA Sustainability Affairs Lead (f/m/d) to join our Medical Products Division (MPD) Sustainability team. In this role you will work closely with EMEA Sales and Marketing teams and other functions to inform and implement our Sustainability strategy and communications plan and help support sustainability related compliance in EMEA by identifying and addressing our business-related risks and opportunities. This role will help support MPD’s capability to meet evolving stakeholder expectations related to sustainability initiatives by understanding, monitoring and addressing changes in the external EMEA environment including market trends, regulatory developments and customer needs.

 

This position will be located at either one of our facilities in Putzbrunn (Germany), Barcelona (Spain) or Livingston (UK), with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

 

Responsibilities: 
  • Educate our EMEA Sales & Marketing organization to enable customer facing Associates to articulate our sustainability strategy and intent, positioning MPD EMEA to be seen and experienced as a valuable & knowledgeable partner for all EMEA customers who prioritize sustainability
  • As part of the global MPD Sustainability team, partner with multiple functions (Product and Chemical Stewardship, Technical, Sales & Marketing, Product Specialists, Business & Regional teams, Government Relations, Communications) to ensure timely and accurate responses to sustainability related inquiries from external stakeholders.
  • Drive awareness of MPD EMEA’s sustainability market expectations by analyzing customer inquiries and industry trends, actively participating with EMEA & country specific Medtech industry groups, monitoring peer benchmarking and assessing regulator activity in the region to create an understanding of our EMEA business risks and opportunities
  • Help support the EMEA view of our sustainability related compliance requirements and ensure a cross-functional issues management process is followed in alignment with the MPD Sustainability team and relevant functions
  • Work closely with the MPD Sustainability team to develop a broad communications strategy and plan and help develop internal and external communication vehicles that demonstrate the progress of our efforts, contributing to annual sustainability and carbon updates/reports and the proactive development of communication materials and updates to our website/social channels/internal communication channels
  • Counsel internal stakeholders on appropriate communications approach based on issue, risk profile and materiality (impact) to the business. Work with and provide guidance on sustainability messaging to business/regional communications partners.
  • Help drive the integration of sustainability requirements into our divisional priorities, processes and transformation initiatives
  • Work directly with the EMEA support structure to ensure alignment and clear understanding of regional current and future needs

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in corporate sustainability, ESG strategy execution
  • Experience proactively building strong relationships with external stakeholders and devising strategies to address their needs
  • Demonstrated success working effectively within diverse/global or cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated understanding of risk management including tolerable/intolerable risk
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail, priority-setting skills and follow-through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to identify, incorporate and share best practices as part of the ongoing commitment
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully determine priorities, adapt to changing priorities and complete complex tasks within established timelines
  • Fluency in English and ideally at least one other European language
  • Ability to travel up to 40%

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree
  • Medical device or pharmaceutical industry experience in a sustainability related role
  • Prior experience in sustainability reporting, obtaining 3rd party sustainability related certifications, knowledge of applicable standards and frameworks
