About the Role: We are looking for an Associate to join Gore's global fluoromaterial stewardship task force as the Fluoromaterial Science and Policy Steward.  In this role, you will develop and maintain subject matter expertise in Fluoromaterials to support the EFST technical advocacy strategy and US policy analysis. You will utilize monitoring and tracking tools to identify relevant legislative and regulatory developments and help ensure that business and functional teams can make informed decisions.  This commitment also includes understanding the state of the science on the most relevant fluoropolymer policy topics, such as end-of-life management.  You will use this understanding to participate in external education and advocacy, including trade associations, public consultations and select conferences, as well as contributing to team strategy and tactics.

Pay and Benefits:

This position offers multiple work arrangements: on-site at one of our facilities in Elkton, Maryland, hybrid or fully remote work allowed in most locations within US, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

  • $95,000 - $140,000 per year 
  • Factors considered in extending an offer within this pay range include (but not limited to) education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities: 
 

50% Technical Focus

  • Develop and maintain technical subject matter expertise on Fluoropolymers and related topics for external advocacy and policy assessment
  • Develop, revise, or review technical content for Gore and input to trade association activities and positions
  • Represent Gore in selected trade associations, committees and conferences
  • Monitor, review and summarize most relevant scientific literature on fluoromaterials

50% US Legislative and Regulatory Focus

  • Utilize and manage external service provider to identify relevant new US federal and state legislation and regulations, proposed rules and related developments 
  • Perform an initial review, evaluate relevance, and triage new proposals based on knowledge of products and operations, sharing relevant areas with business and functional leads for further assessment 
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is updated and accessible to internal stakeholders  

Required Qualifications: 

  • Science or Engineering Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering, scientific or regulatory experience
  • Effective communicator and influencer
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, summarize and critically assess scientific publications and other technical information on polymers and fluorinated chemicals
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, simplify and summarize highly detailed, complex and/or incomplete information and requirements for a wide range of global audiences
  • Ability to manage sensitive IP and navigate complex waterlines
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous environments
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in material science, polymer processing and/or technical engagement with trade associations or standards organizations
  • Knowledge of US environmental regulations, legislative and the rulemaking processes
